2025 – 2027 New Jersey Real Estate Commission Continuing Education

In order to qualify for license renewal or reinstatement, every individual renewing their license as a broker of record, broker-salesperson or salesperson must satisfy at least ONE of the below CE requirements (those renewing as referral agents do not need CE):

  • Completion of 12 credit hours of CE applicable to the license term (N.J.A.C. 11:5-12.4 (2012)). At least six of the twelve credits must be obtained in courses within the “core topics”. The six shall include at least 2 credit hours on ethics, 1 Credit Hour in Fair Housing and 1 Credit Hour in Agency. The remaining 6 credits can be electives or core.
  • Successful completion of one or more broker pre-licensure education courses (within the license term) as set forth in N.J.A.C. 11:5-2.1, shall fulfill CE requirements for renewal.

Note:

If you first obtain your license in the second year of the NJ real estate license term (after July 1, 2026), you are not required to complete CE until the next cycle ending June 30, 2029.

– All 12 credit hours for the current biennial timeframe must be completed before the CE Deadline of April 30, 2027. Failure to comply will result in a mandatory $200 late CE fee.

– It will take approximately 10 business days for the confirmation of your completed continuing education to be transferred from your CE Provider to the testing vendor to the Real Estate Commission.

For more information, please visit the State of New Jersey Real Estate Commission Website.

Visit the PSI Online Tracking System here to check your earned CE credits to date and the credits you still need to complete. For information about Continuing Education and other topics, visit the NJ Department of Banking and Insurance (DOBI) – Real Estate Commission (REC) here.

Waivers from CE requirements may be granted either in whole or in part for:

  • Incapacitating illness
  • Active military duty
  • Emergency
  • Other substantial/unavoidable hardship (not including financial hardship, business conflicts or personal obligations)

Licensees granted a waiver from CE requirements (with the exception of those for active duty military service), will have to make up the waived core course(s) missed in the next license term in addition to all of the credits required for that license term as a condition of license renewal for the license term following when the waiver was issued. (For example, if six core credits were waived, a licensee will have to complete a total of 18 in the next license term.) See N.J.A.C. 11:5-12.5(f).

Any waived elective courses will not have to be completed by a real estate licensee. See N.J.A.C. 11:5-12.5(g).

Application for Real Estate Continuing Education Waiver – Fillable MS Word or PDF

CE exemption can also be applied for those who have been licensed as a real estate broker or broker-salesperson for 40 years or more. The 40 years of licensure need not be continuous. Only years of licensure as a real estate broker or broker-salesperson count towards the 40-year requirement; years of licensure as a salesperson do not count.

Professional development courses offer real value to real estate agents even when they do not apply toward licensure requirements, because they focus on practical skills and strategic thinking that directly impact day-to-day performance. These courses often go deeper than mandated CE, emphasizing topics like negotiation, leadership, marketing analytics, client psychology, emerging technology, and business planning—areas that translate immediately into stronger client relationships and increased efficiency. They also encourage agents to think beyond compliance and toward long-term career sustainability, adaptability, and differentiation in a competitive market. By investing in learning that sharpens judgment, improves communication, and strengthens business acumen, agents position themselves as more knowledgeable advisors, not just license holders, which ultimately supports higher professionalism and better outcomes for clients.
