Sparta, NJ (January 2021) The Sussex County Association of REALTORS® recently presented a check for $2,500 to the Sussex County Food Pantry in Newton, New Jersey.
The Sussex County Food Pantry, a Division of Social Services, collects and distributes food not only to families in need but also to many other food pantries in the area. “Many smaller pantries had to suspend operations during the height of the pandemic and when they reopened, we helped restock a lot of shelves” said Rita Oroho, Coordinator at the Sussex County Food Pantry. “This generous donation from the Sussex County Association of REALTORS® will help provide the exact needs for the pantries, agencies, and ministries we assist; getting food and resources to thousands of people in need around the county.”
The Sussex County Food Pantry aids 27 local organizations including Birth Haven, Harvest House, Catholic Charities, Project Self-Sufficiency, and numerous local church pantries among many others. They also provide weekend bags for local schools, making sure that children don’t go hungry over the weekend when they are not getting breakfast and lunch at school. This past March, the Sussex County Food Pantry put 2700 of these weekend bags together for children all across Sussex.
The Sussex County Food Pantry fed close to 2000 people in November, directly through Social Services. Additionally, they are one of the only pantries to stock pet food and supplies. This helps those who are struggling financially to not have to worry about surrendering their family pet to an animal shelter.
If in need of emergency food, you can stop by Social Services Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm and use the intercom by the garage door. Those wishing to make a donation should call 973-383-3600.
